Installation Interrupted before QuickBooks QBi 2008/09 could be installed

Question

Why does my installation of QuickBooks QBi 2008/09 fail when I select ' Install QuickBooks Company File Server Only'?

Answer

QuickBooks QBi 2008/09 cannot be installed if you have selected 'Install QuickBooks Company File Server Only'.

This option is specifically for users working in a multi-user environment on a network and this computer stores the company file that other QuickBooks users will access, but no one will actually run QuickBooks on this computer (This computer simply acts as a file server).

In order to install QuickBooks, follow the instructions below:

1. From the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel.
2. Double click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Locate QuickBooks QBi 2008/09 and click on the Change/Remove button.
Note: There are two installations of QuickBooks QBi 2008/09 in the Add/Remove Programs list. Remove both installations.
4. The Maintenance Wizard will give you the option to repair or remove QuickBooks. Click Next.
5. Select Remove and click Next.

You will now be able to install QuickBooks.

Select 'Install QuickBooks with the Company File Server' if:

You are working in a multi-user environment on a network, and this computer stores (hosts) the company file that other users will access from their computers.
or
You are running QuickBooks in a home office, where you run QuickBooks on two computers, but this computer stores (hosts) the company file(s) that will be accessed by both computers.

Select 'Install QuickBooks Only' if:

You are a single user and not accessing the company file from another computer on a network. If you run QuickBooks on a network and access the company file from another computer (no other QuickBooks users will be able to access a company file from this computer).
