Error (-6098,5) when opening a data file from a network location

Question

Why do I get an error (-6098,5) when I try to open my company file from a network location?

Answer

The user account needs to have Administrator rights. 

 

To grant a User Account Administrator rights:

Windows 7, Vista & XP:

1.    Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel;

2.    In the Control Panel window, double-click User Accounts, (Windows 7 & Vista: and then Manage User Accounts);

3.    Click the appropriate User Account:

a.    Reckon Accounts 2023:  QBDataServiceUser32;

b.    Reckon Accounts 2022:  QBDataServiceUser31;

c.    QuickBooks 2008/09:  QBDataServiceUser17;

4.    Click the Properties button;

5.    Click the Group Membership tab;

6.    Select the Other option, click the drop-down arrow and select Administrators from the list;

7.    Click the Apply button to apply the change, and then click OK;

8.    Click OK again to close the User Accounts window.

 

Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008

1.    Right-click My Computer and select Manage;

2.    Click the plus (+) symbol next to Local Users and Groups;

3.    Select Local Users;

4.    On the right panel, click the appropriate qbdataserviceuserXX and select Properties;

5.    Click the Member tab and click Add;

6.    Click OK to save changes.
