You do not have permissions to access this folder when selecting Keystore.xml in GovConnect

Legacy KB ID: 3991

Question

Why doesn’t GovConnect allow me to access the keystore.xml file when I login to GovConnect?

Answer

The user does not have permissions to the folder where the keystore.xml file is stored.

The keystore.xml file is created when a user applies for and is issued an AUSkey by the Australian Business Register for use in Standard Business Reporting (SBR).  This file defines the access and function rights of the user to SBR.  The registration process will offer to save this file to the default directory which the user has access to.

The default locations are:

  1. Windows 7 & Vista:  C:\Users\<logged in user>\AppData\Roaming\AUSkey
  2. Windows XP & Server 2003:  C:\Documents and Settings\<logged in user>\ Application Data\AUSkey
  3. MAC OSX:  Finder/ Username/Library/Application Support/AUSkey
  4. USB:  <USBdrive>\AUSkey or, AUSkey Browser\AUSkey

A user can change the location of the keystore.xml, and other files.

Because of the access rights to sensitive business and tax information that an AUSkey allows, every user of SBR should have their own AUSkey where their rights of access and functions can be assigned by the relevant Government departments like the ATO.

Workarounds

Option 1

Give the user permissions to the folder that contains the keystore.xml file.

Option 2

The business owner/manager should arrange an AUSkey subkey for any employees that will be regularly lodging BAS through SBR.  Refer to:  www.abr.gov.au and choose the link Register for an AUSkey.
