Installing QuickBooks on a SBS Server 2008 crashes the IIS Service

Legacy KB ID: 4438

Question

Why can’t I install QuickBooks on my SBS Server 2008?  It causes my IIS Service to crash and the installation cannot proceed.

Answer

This issue will be experienced on SBS Server 2011 as well.

QuickBooks requires .Net Framework 1.1 installed on the machine.  SBS Server 2008 comes with .Net Framework 4.0, but it is not registered and so cannot be used until it is registered.  Once registered, the IIS Service will not crash and will allow the QuickBooks installation to install .Net Framework 1.1 from the disk and allow the QuickBooks installation to proceed.

Detailed Steps

Warning:  Users should consult their IT professional to consider the effects the following steps may have on their system.

·         Type:  aspnet_regiis /i   (to register the file)

·         Type: iisreset  (to restart the service)

·         Close the command prompt

·         Install QuickBooks with the option QuickBooks and Company file Server
