Error on Cached Wizard Page when activating QuickBooks 2012/13 on a Windows Server 2008

Legacy KB ID: 4528

Question

Why do I get the error: Error on cached wizard page, when I try to activate a QuickBooks 2012/13 installed on a Windows Server 2008?  I have followed KB 1951 but I still have the problem.

Answer

QuickBooks 2012/13 does not have sufficient permissions, despite having full permissions to the folder that contains the files ActWzd.html and lcgn.html in the folder:

·         Windows 7 & Vista: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\Shared\;

·         Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Intuit\Shared\.

If Quickbooks is run as ‘Run as Administrator’ no problems are encountered.

Detailed Instructions

Users should first follow the directions in KB 1951 to eliminate generic causes to the problem.  When the problem persists, continue with the following steps.

To utilize ‘Run As Administrator’ you must have access to an admin user’s username and password.

You can ‘Run As Administrator’ in a couple of ways:

1.    Right-click the QuickBooks icon and select ‘Run As Administrator’;

2.    Right-click the QuickBooks icon, select Properties, then Compatilibility tab and tick the box Run this program as an administrator.
