New PAYG Tax Scales for Payroll Premier 2011/12 not updating in a multi-user environment

Question

I have recently upgraded to Payroll Premier 2011/12 according to the preferred method for a multi-user environment.  I have create a new tax scale and although I can see the tax scale in the PAYG Tax Scale List I cannot see them on the Taxation tab of the employees’ record.    

Answer

New PAYG tax scales are saved to the user’s local PC and do not form part of the company file.  Taxation tab on the employee’s record will look to the same location as the data file.  On a single PC installation, there is no problem, but with a network location, the data file is in a different location with a copy of the original tax files.  These tax files have not been updated.

The creator of the PAYG tax scale will be able to see them in the PAYG Tax Scale list, but not in the Taxation tab of the employee record.

Other users will not be able to see the new tax scale in either the PAYG Tax Scale list or the Taxation tab.

 

Workaround

Copy the tax files from the creator’s local computer to the network folder and to all users’ C:\QPRollvXX\Data\ folder.

Before starting close all Payroll Premier sessions.

 

On the creator’s local PC:

1.    In Windows Explorer go to the C:\QPRollvXX\Data\ folder

2.    Left click once on QTax.tps > hold down the CTRL key > left click once on QTaxInfo.tps > right-click and select copy;

3.    In Windows Explorer navigate to the network folder

4.    Click on the white space of the folder, right-click and select Paste.

Your network folder is now updated with the latest changes to the PAYG Tax Scales.

 

On other users’ PCs.

1.    In Windows Explorer go to the network folder

2.    Left click once on QTax.tps > hold down the CTRL key > left click once on QTaxInfo.tps > right-click and select copy;

3.    In Windows Explorer navigate to the local PC’s C:\QPRollvXX\Data\ folder

4.    Click on the white space of the folder, right-click and select Paste

5.    Repeat on all users’ PCs

All PCs should now be able to see and use the new PAYG Tax Scales. 

 

Note:  You will need to repeat this process whenever any user creates or modifies a PAYG Tax Scale.
