Cannot access Help Menu or receive an Internet Explorer Script Error in QuickBooks

Legacy KB ID: 199

Question

Why can't I access the Help menu within QuickBooks after installing the latest Windows Update?  I get a Debug Error:  the page cannot be displayed.

Answer

This error will be encountered when you start using a later Internet Explorer version than the one QuickBooks was configured to use.

 This error will not be encountered on QuickBooks 2010/11 using Internet Explorer 8.

Solution

Upgrade to QuickBooks 2010/11 and Internet Explorer 8

There is no solution for Internet Explorer 8 users.  Revert to Internet Explorer 7.

Download and install the following patch:

QuickBooks must be closed before applying the patch.

If you are still experiencing script errors with QuickBooks 2009/10 and Internet Explorer 7:

We have encountered an issue with the following components in regards to the Microsoft Automatic Updates:

                                          i.    Security Update for Microsoft Windows [KB942615];

                                         ii.    Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 [KB944533];

A temporary suggestion to gain access to the QuickBooks Help Menu is to uninstall the security component [KB942615] from the Microsoft Windows update.
