Question

Why do I receive the error - The data file is either corrupt or not a valid Quicken Payroll Version 6 or later data file?

Answer

If you receive the above error, we recommend that you restore from your last good pay run.

This can be done by using the built-in Payroll Premier Recovery feature to see if you have any previous "auto-backup" sets available.

Auto backups are made after each pay run is completed.

The Payroll Premier BACKUP folder will typically have a stored archive of past pay runs.

To recover the last pay run;

1. Click on the Start button in Windows

2. Click on the All Programs menu option

3. Click on the Payroll Premier 20XX-XX menu option
   (X represents your current year version)

4. Click on the Payroll Premier Recovery menu

5. Go through the Payroll Recovery wizard screens by clicking the Next button

6. Select the option "I wish to recover back to a previous pay" and then click the Next button

7. Choose from the list of automatically backed up pay runs that would have been created at the time of your last pay run

8. If you have found a recent automatically backed up pay run, click the Next button and follow the rest of the wizard steps

9. Once the wizard is complete, you should now end up with a data file as of the last pay run data which you can work on and make up-to-date

10. If there were no suitable backup sets you could go back to, then you will need to start a brand new file.
