Old version of Quicken Home Inventory Manager opens in Quicken 2012

Legacy KB ID: 4351

Question

Why does an old version of Quicken Home Inventory Manager open in Quicken 2012?  I followed all instructions to uninstall the previous version and the new Quicken Home Inventory Manager launches from All Programs.

Answer

It is possible that a Quicken Home Inventory Manager executable is still present on the PC.  When launching Quicken Home Inventory Manager from inside Quicken Property & Debt menu, an old one will be launched if one exists.

The old version may still exist if a 2004 or earlier version of Quicken is still installed on the PC, or if an uninstall did not complete properly (but still uninstalled the core Quicken files).

Solution

Before starting, make sure you have a couple of copies of your existing Quicken Home Inventory Manager datafile.  If you do not know where it is, search your PC for *.idb files.

Search your PC for the Quicken Home Inventory Manager executable file - qhi.exe – and delete it.

DO NOT DELETE the QHIM.exe file in C:\Program Files\ Quicken Home Inventory Manager – this is the executable for the 2012 Quicken Home Inventory Manager.

Check the functioning of Quicken Home Inventory Manager again.  If the new version does not launch, close Quicken, restart the PC and try again.

If Quicken Home Inventory Manager still does not launch, uninstall Quicken Home Inventory Manager (through the Control Panel) and reinstall it.  for a guide to installing quicken Home Inventory Manager, see kb 4325: https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=4325
