Error (-6000, -77) when opening a Reckon Accounts company file

Question

Why do I get an (-6000,-77) error when I try to open my company file?

Answer

You will experience this error if Reckon Accounts cannot access your company file because:

·         The company file is located on external media, like a USB stick:

·         BitDefender software may be blocking communication between computers on a network:

·         The permission settings are incorrect for the folder hosting the company data file:  


Solutions 


The company file is located on external media

1.    Copy the company file to a local hard drive or to the Reckon Accounts file server on a network.

2.    Open Reckon Accounts and open the company file.



BitDefender may be blocking communication between computers on a network 

1.    Temporarily disable or uninstall BitDefender software on the computer hosting the company file and on the computer trying to access the company file.


2.    Open Reckon Accounts and open the company file. If the file opens successfully, refer to BitDefender documentation or technical support to configure access to the following ports as appropriate to your version:

    • Reckon Accounts 2018:  Port 10181
    • Reckon Accounts 2017:  Port 10180
    • Reckon Accounts 2016:  Port 10179
    • Reckon Accounts 2014  Port 10177
    • Reckon Accounts 2013:  Port 10176
    • QuickBooks 2010-11:  Port 10173
    • QuickBooks 2008-09 & 2009-10:  Port 10172

 


The permission settings are incorrect for the folder hosting the company data file

Set access permissions for Reckon Accounts in Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP

Note: The specific QBDataServiceUser for each version requires Full Control to the shared folder:

  • Reckon Accounts 2018:  QBDataServiceUser27
  • Reckon Accounts 2017:  QBDataServiceUser26
  • Reckon Accounts 2016:  QBDataServiceUser25
  • Reckon Accounts 2014:  QBDataServiceUser23
  • Reckon Accounts 2013:  QBDataServiceUser22
  • QuickBooks 2008-09:  QBDataServiceUser17


Windows 10, 8 & 7

  1. Right-click the shared folder containing the Reckon Accounts company files and select Share With > Specific People.
  2. In the File Sharing window, enter the name you want to add or use the drop-down arrow to select the user and click the Add button.
  3. In the Permission Level column, select the Read drop-down arrow and select Read/Write.
  4. Click Share. You will see a confirmation message stating, Your folder is shared.  Click Done.

If you do not see the QBDataServiceUserXX listed in the FileSharing window, repeat steps 2 - 4 to add the user for your product.

 


Windows Vista

  1. Right-click the shared folder containing the Reckon Accounts company files and select Share.
  2. In the File Sharing window, enter the name you want to add or use the drop-down arrow to select the user and click the Add button.
  3. In the Permission Level column, select the Read drop-down arrow and select Co-Owner.
  4. Click Share. You will see a confirmation message stating, Your folder is shared.  Click Done.

If you do not see the QBDataServiceUserXX listed in the FileSharing window, repeat steps 2 - 4 to add the user for your product.

 


Windows XP Pro 

Be sure simple file sharing is disabled:

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon > Tools > Folder Options.
  2. Click the View tab, and scroll to the bottom of the list.
  3. Click to clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) checkbox and click OK.

Set access permissions for Reckon Accounts:

  1. Right-click the shared folder containing Reckon Accounts company files and select Properties.
  2. Click the Sharing tab, choose the Share this folder option, and click the Permissions button.
  3. In the Group or user names section, select Everyone.
  4. In the Permissions for Everyone section, select Full Control checkbox in the Allow column.

Repeat steps 3 & 4 for the QBDataServiceUserXX (or the user appropriate for your Reckon Accounts Product). 


Windows XP Home Edition

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
  2. Enter shrpubw and click OK.
  3. In the Shared folder wizard, click Next.
  4. Click Browse and select the shared folder.
  5. Enter a name for the share (this name can be the same as the folder name), and then click Next.
  6. Select Customize permissions, and then click Custom.
  7. In the Group or user names section, select Everyone.
  8. In the Permissions for Everyone section, select Full Control checkbox in the Allow column.
  9. Select QBDataServiceUserXX (where XX is the version number of your Reckon Accounts) and select Full Control.

Note:  Microsoft does not recommend 10 or more computers connecting to a Windows XP machine in a peer-to-peer network. Any more may result in performance issues.
