Empdupe rejected by ATO when an amount is quoted in Lump Sum Payment A in Payroll Premier 2010/11

Legacy KB ID: 3842

Question

Why is my Payroll Premier 2010/11 Empdupe file rejected by the ATO with the error:

The Lump sum payment A field is greater than zero therefore the Lump sum payment A type field must contain either 'R' (Payment made for genuine redundancy, invalidity or early retirement scheme) or 'T' (Payment not made for genuine redundancy, invalidity or early retirement scheme), but we found:

              Lump sum payment A [Position 256-263] = '09876543'

              Lump sum payment A type [Position 321-321]    = ' '?

Answer

This error may be experienced when an Empdupe file contains a termination payment involving a Lump Sum Payment A.

When there is a Lump Sum Payment A in an employee’s final pay, you need to enter in the check box alongside, either an R for retrenchment or T for termination.

Even though you have entered the correct check code, and it does appear on the Payment Summary, the Empdupe rejects saying that the check box is blank.

This error appears to be the result of including the last normal pay with the termination pay processed through the Termination Wizard.

Workaround

1.    Re-instate the employee with the Accidental Termination option

2.    Delete the termination and last normal pay.

3.    Process the last normal pay in a separate pay run

4.    Terminate the employee with the Termination Wizard, selecting the option No Do Not Pay The Employee in the Payments for Unpaid Work section.
