Why do I receive an error message: Retail Point of Sale Administrator has encountered a problem and needs to close?

Answer

This is caused when the Customer List or Product List is minimised and the program is shut down.

When attempting to open Retail Point of Sale Administrator, it encounters a problem and needs to close.

  • POS 2007/08 - Customer List
  • POS 2008/09 - Product List

In order to fix this, follow the steps below:

  • Windows XP:
    - From the Start menu, select Run
    - Type regedit in the Open field
  •  Vista:
    - From the Windows Logo, type regedit in the Start Search field
    - Press Enter on your keyboard

Alternatively, you can export your Registry so that if a problem does occur, you can import your original settings.

  • To Export;
    - From the File menu, select Export...
    - Type a name in the File name field and Save in to a location on your computer (e.g Desktop)
  • To Import;
    - From the File menu, select Import...
    - Locate the file you saved and Open

  • From the Registry Editor in the left window, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > VB and VBA Program Settings > QuickBooks Point of Sale Administrator
     - POS 2007/08 - CustomerList
     - POS 2008/09 - ProductList
  • In the right window, double click WindowState and enter 2 in the Value data field
  • Click OK
  • Close the Registry Editor window
