Double login onto QuickBooks Hosted Standard from a Windows XP PC

Legacy KB ID: 4118

Question

Why am I required to login twice onto QuickBooks Hosted Standard account?

Answer

This issue will be experienced by some Windows XP users

QuickBooks Hosted Standard uses new Windows technology in Server 2008 R2.  To communicate with this server, the user’s PC must have the latest utilities that facilitates that communication installed.  Windows 7 and Vista have these utilities inbuilt, but Windows XP does not.

Windows XP users must be upgraded to Service Pack 3 and have the RDC7.0 patch (Hotfix KB969084) installed, to ensure smooth communication with the Server.

Windows Vista users must have their Remote Desktop Connection upgraded to RDC7.0.

The double login request is a feature when all required utilities are not installed.

Workaround

Windows XP

Ensure your Windows XP is updated to Service Pack 3.

·         You can obtain Service Pack 3 from the Microsoft at:

https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=ac7e58f3-2fd4-4fec-abfd-8002d34476f4&displaylang=en

·         Run Automatic Updates to update your computer with all subsequent updates.

Check your version of Remote Desktop Connection:

·         Start > All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection;

·         Left click the icon to the left of the dialog box title Remote Desktop Connection and select About;

·         Sell Version line should read 6.1.7600.

o    If it is a lower number then this computer is not ready to communicate with a windows Server 2008 R2.

Update your version of Remote Desktop Connection.

·         Obtain the latest version from Microsoft at https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=72158b4e-b527-45e4-af24-d02938a95683&displaylang=en

You should now be able to access QuickBooks Hosted 2011/12 without the need to logon twice.

Windows Vista

Download the RDC7.0 for Windows Vista from:

https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=12767

If you still experience a double login request then continue:

1.    On the RemoteApp screen, right-click on the Publisher entry:

a.    The full entry is rdsfarm.qbi.aust

b.    It may appear as “r…”

2.    On the General tab, click on Install Certificate;

3.    Click OK to finish.

4.    Close the browser and relaunch it.

If you now get an error:  ‘The remote computer requires Network Level Authentication, which your computer does not support. For assistance, see your system administrator or technical support.’, click here for KB4102 for further steps.
