Question

I am having difficulties trying to setup Quicken Payroll 2002 for Multi User. What do I need to check?

Answer

If you are having trouble with a customer networking thier Multiuser Payroll, then check the following; - Is there a Multiuser registration number present? Check that there is either a MU Registration number present or that the product itself is Quicken Payroll Multi-User (in this case there will be no Multi-User registration number). This information appears in the Help > About window - Are all the drive letters being used to access the file the same? If the data file is located on a central server, then all terminals accessing the data must use the same drive letter to access this folder. If the file is located on one of the terminals, then a mapped drive will need to be setup from that terminal, pointing to the shared folder (even though the file is stored locally!). This can only be done going to Network Neighbourhood and browsing back to that computer. Locate the shared folder and map a drive letter to this, making sure that this is the same letter being used on all other terminals. If there are still problems after having checked the above, setup a new folder on one of the comptuers and create new mapped from each computer (including the server), making sure that the drive letter is the same. Then locate the file "QPV9.INI" and open this using Wordpad. Remove the line under [Server], without leaving a blank line! This needs to be done on each terminal. Save the file and restart Payroll. Use the Setup Network Data Path feature to link Payroll to the new drive. To test if it works, close Payroll down and restart it.

How did we do?
