POS Terminal has incorrect behaviour when leaving a Password Blank

Legacy KB ID: 3721

Question

After setting my user password as blank in the POS Administrator, why do some functions in POS Terminal not accept my password?

Answer

This is an issue on POS database files that utilized security features in earlier editions and upgraded to POS 2009/10 and POS 2010/11 which contain added security features.

The Administrator password to POS Admin will become the Global Manager Override password in POS 2009/10 and later.  User passwords are unaffected.

Although a valid POS password must have between 4 and 16 characters, POS Administrator will accept a blank for the password.  A blank password will allow the user into POS Terminal, but some functions like End-Of-Day, accessing Options or Global Override Password, Terminal will not accept the blank.  When the password field is left blank and you click OK, nothing happens and there is no warning message that the password is incorrect.

Solution

Change the POS Admin password from a blank to a valid password.

Additional Note

The issue will be addressed in POS 2011/12
