Australian market indices are not being updated

Question

I have added Australian market indecies to my Watch List in Quicken 2002. Why when I update my share prices online are these indecies not updated?

Answer

Some time ago, the ASX announced it was changing the classification of all equities in line with the Global Industry Classification System (GICS). This change is scheduled to come into effect in June 2002. One of the results of this reclassification is a reduction in the number of indices being published - the previous 60 indices have now been reclassified into 20 indices. For the past few months, you have been receiving data for both the new and the old indices. We have now been informed by the ASX that from Monday April 8th 2002, end of day data for the old indices will not be available until the next trading day. The 20 major indices that the ASX publish under the GICS system will continue to be updated each night as part of the new classification format. As of June 28th 2002, the old indices will no longer be updated and will cease to exist. For more information on the new indice structure and availability, we recommend you view the special feature "Standard & Poors Begins Final Transition to GICS at www.standardandpoors.com.au. This provides a detailed status report on all existing indices as well as additional information on the GICS system. The 20 codes that will continue to update at 8 pm are: XTO S&P/ASX 100 XTL S&P/ASX 20 XAO All Ordinaries XFL S&P/ASX 50 XMD S&P/ASX Midcap 50 XSO S&P/ASX Small Ords XJO S&P/ASX 200 XKO S&P/ASX 300 XEJ 200 Energy (GIC) XMJ 200 Materials (GIC) XNJ 200 Industrial (GIC) XDJ 200 Discetion (GIC) XSJ 200 Staples (GIC) XHJ 200 HealthCare (GIC) XFJ 200 Financials (GIC) XIJ 200 Info Tech (GIC) XTJ 200 Telecoms (GIC) XUJ 200 Utilities (GIC) XPJ 200 Prop Trust (GIC) XXJ 200 Fin-x-Prop (GIC)
