Backing up Quicken 2004 data onto a CD-ROM when using Windows XP

Legacy KB ID: 3158

Question

How do I back up my Quicken data onto a CD-ROM when using the Microsoft® Windows XP operating system?

Answer

Quicken will not write files directly to the CD, although Quicken will report File backed up successfully. The Windows XP CD Burning Wizard must be used to write the backup files from the staging area to the CD. See steps below.

Using the Windows XP CD writing Wizard to back up to a CD:

  1. Back up in Quicken to the CD.
  2. After the File backed up successfully message, click the message, You have files waiting to be written to the CD in the lower right corner of the desktop.
  3. If the window does not appear, double-click My Computer on your desktop to browse to the CD.
  4. From the File menu, choose Write these files to CD.

  5. After the CD Writing Wizard is complete, click Finish.

  6. Verify that the files are on the CD by viewing the contents of the CD. Your backup process is now complete
