HTTP Status 404 - /cgi/login message when trying to log onto Quickbooks Hosted Premium

Legacy KB ID: 4531

Question

Why can’t I log in to QuickBooks Hosted Premium?  I was able to log on earlier today without any difficulties.  I get the error:

HTTP Status 404 - /cgi/login

Type: Status Report

Message: /cgi/login

Description: the requested resource (/cgi/login) is unavailable

Answer

A recent upgrade to the Premium servers has improved the security of access to QuickBooks Hosted Premium.  As a result of this upgrade users must now close their web browsers after logging off.  Each time you log off you will receive the message:

You have been logged off.  See you again soon.

For security reasons, you must close this browser window.

If you do not close your browser before attempting to log in again you will receive the error.

Workaround

  1. After logging off from your QuickBooks Hosted Premium session, close the current browser tab and then close your web browser.
  2. Relaunch your web browser and accept the offer to restore your previous sessions;
  3. Open a new tab for a new connection to QuickBooks Hosted.

Additional step for Safari users on a MAC

You must also close down Safari from the file menu.  You can do that in one of two ways:

  1. Click on the Desktop to make the Desktop active.  This will shut down Safari;
  2. Click on File then Exit.

The Safari option on the top menu line will change to Finder.
