Why do I get "Registration Information Appears Corrupt. Please Re-install Quicken Payroll" when trying to open the program?

Legacy KB ID: 2405

Question

When logged onto a Windows NT, 2000, or XP machine as a Power User, why do I get "Registration Information Appears Corrupt. Please Re-install Quicken Payroll" when trying to open the program?

Answer

Users need permissions under Windows to access the Quicken Payroll folders in the registry.
To give permissions, log on as an administrator.
Go to Start > Run and type in regedt32.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Quicken Payroll folder and make sure that this folder is shared to the user trying to access the program. To do this, highlight the folder, go into the SECURITY menu (or right click the folder) and click on PERMISSIONS. Search or add the name of the user that you wish to give permission too, and give FULL CONTROL.
