ActiveX control not enabled message when launching QuickBooks Hosted Standard from a Windows 8 compu

Legacy KB ID: 4709

Question

Why can’t I access QuickBooks Hosted from my new Windows 8 computer?  I get an error that ActiveX control not enabled.  I follow the instructions to enable it but still I get the error.

Answer

While currently Reckon is unable to certify that current versions of QuickBooks desktop products use the new Windows 8 operating system, as we become aware of common issues experienced by users on QuickBooks 2012/13, we will provide some guidance through the Reckon Knowledge Browser. Please note our next release of QuickBooks desktop products, planned for April/May 2013 will be certified for Windows 8.

QuickBooks Hosted will work with Windows 8 after the following steps are taken.

You will experience the “ActiveX control not enabled” message if you launch your Internet Explorer (IE10) from the Windows 8 “Metro” Start screen.  The  Internet Explorer associated with this tile is a simplified version of the full browser, specifically designed for the “Metro” style design.  It does not support any plug-ins.

You must use the full version IE10 to access QuickBooks Hosted successfully.

Workarounds

From the ActiveX error screen do the following:

1.    right-click your mouse and then the spanner icon in the lower right of screen;

2.    Select View on Desktop.

a.    You will now switch to your desktop and the full version IE10.

3.    Login again;

4.    If you have not yet done so, you will be prompted to install and run the Reckon Infrastructure Compatibility Check V3.  When complete, return to the Hosted landing page;

5.    Click on the QuickBooks icon to launch QuickBooks Hosted.

6.    If you are asked for credentials to QBICBAU01.QBi.aust, enter qbi\ and your customer account number and user number: eg: qbi\1234567-1.

Proper access procedures for Windows 8
