QuickBooks has detected that you do not have a previously registered version installed

Question

When installing QuickBooks 2002 an error appears “QuickBooks has detected that you do not have a previously registered version installed”.

Answer

If you have verified that you do, in fact have a previously registered version of QuickBooks installed you need to do the following NB: To verify that you do have a registered version, open QuickBooks, go to the HELP menu, and click on “About Quickbooks”. This will give you, your current registration details. Enter your “Registry Editor” and remove the version 7.0 license key (Please be extra careful when in the registry as deleting or changing the wrong keys can damage your installations. Quicken does not take any responsibility for any user errors on the following steps): To do this: 1. Go to Start || Run || 2. Type “regedit” and press OK 3. In the registry editor window that appears you will see some HKEY_? Folders. a. Click on the plus sign next to the folder named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE(more folders will appear beneath this folder ) b. Click on the plus sign next to the folder named SOFTWARE (more folders will appear underneath ) c. Click on the plus sign next to the folder named INTUIT (more folders will appear underneath ) d. Click on the plus sign next to the folder called “Quickbooksregistration”. e. Click once with your left mouse button on the folder called “7.0” (Beneath QuickBooksRegistration”) and hit the “Delete” key on your keyboard. (You will get a message asking you if you are “Sure you want to delete this key and all its subkeys”. Click YES). Once this is complete, you should now be able to install QuickBooks 2002 successfully.
